I have a sweet tooth like you wouldn’t believe. Sugar cravings come on the regular, so I give myself little challenges, like fasting from sweets for a period of time, or I set rules like “No candy Monday-Friday” and “Eat something green before something sweet.” …All in an effort to tame the beast.

I’m just coming off of a 30-day fast from sugar last month, and it feels great. Not only does the rehab part feel great (no more blind binging), but it felt great to lose the craving entirely for a few weeks. Giving something up helps you learn to live without it.

During that time, I saw the truth behind my candy addiction. I saw eating it as taking in processed chemicals. There’s nothing tasty about that.

Normally, I would just eat it without thinking another thought.

Why should anything anyone says or does cause you to get disturbed? Michael A. Singer

Imagine if one set of thoughts, opinions, judgments, definitions, interpretations, past experiences, current motivations and future aspirations came against another set of thoughts, opinions, judgments, definitions, interpretations, past experiences, current motivations and future aspirations. Can you envision the misunderstandings, the bickering and the grudges that would result? Nations fight over this stuff. And that’s on a global level. What if that conflict was in your own home? Would you believe that the same thing that starts wars forms your relationships?

And the Lord said, write the vision, and make it plain…because it will surely come.

Habakkuk 2:2-3 KJV

Your goals are pipe dreams, huh? Farfetched visions of grandeur? Why do we set resolutions only to days later give up? I’ve been there. You get all geared up to accomplish the goal, but never quite get around to doing it. So frustrating. Well, this doesn’t have to be the case. Our success in accomplishing the goal or it eluding us has to do with the stories we tell ourselves. Our story is either defeatist or optimistic in nature. Did you feel convinced of its worth when set the goal? When later thinking about your goal, did you return to a place of encouragement or discouragement? Have you committed mind, body and soul to the objective?

Goals don’t have to be a struggle. That’s not the point of goal-setting. The point of goal-setting is to feel empowered enough to get what you want in this lifetime. It’s to set your sights on some desired outcome, savor the process getting there and then indulge in the results. The key to goal-setting is first to set an intention, keep it at attention, and take comfortable action towards it.

You resonate with (or are turned on by) people whose vibrational energy is similar to yours.

Barbara De Angelis

The book by the name, Are You The One For Me?, written by Barbara De Angelis, Ph.D., brought to light some interesting notions about relationships. I dusted it off during my new-year house-cleaning, scanned it, and it got me thinking. (Very timely. Nevermind its archaic publishing date of 1992.) If you’ve been reading this blog, you’ll know I often differentiate ‘relationships’ from ‘love’. They are not one in the same. One may beget the other, but they remain separate concepts.

Love is a conscious state of being. It can be expressed in a variety of different ways and is found everywhere, even alone. Love needs no partner; it just is. A relationship is an earthly pairing of two or more entities. The connections formed therein—be it between parent and child, friend and friend, lover and lover, or man and dog—can be expressions of love. Healthy relationships require mutual consideration and respect. Love, on the other hand, requires no physical expression to exist.
